Kaari

Credit
Species: Kaari

Alias: N/A

Sexes: Male and Female

Average Lifespan: 45-100 Years

Physiology

The initial Kaari looked exactly like a human. They have two arms, two legs, and no tail. They have one thumb and four fingers on each hand. They have five toes on each foot.

They have hair on their head that ranges in color, length, and thickness. Older humans (both male and female) will sometimes color their hair in an attempt to hide grey and/or white hairs. Some human males do experience baldness later in life. The earliest recorded instance of baldness in a human occurred at twenty years old.

There are a few differences between males and females. Female mammary glands aid in rearing children. They also help arouse a potential mate. The two have different genitalia. The male's is suited for impregnating a female while the female's is suited for birthing children. These are two of the biggest differences.

While human sexes are binary, their gender identities aren't. Some common gender identities are transexual and genderfluid.

This was how Kaari appeared until the union between Rin Kaari and Jon Stark. Uniting both lineages together resulted in the next stage of their evolution.

The next stage of the Kaari was a mixture of both human and dragon. As if there had been a balance found between the two. They had wings on their backs, a tail, dragon teeth instead of human ones, dragon feet, hands that looked like claws, and scales instead of human skin. They did have human genitalia, hair, and the females had mammary glands.

Abilities

The ancestral Valyrian blade of House Kaari is unique. It is by no means the only ancestral blade that has a few oddities. Dawn of House Dayne being a prime example.

The blade of House Kaari has no real name. It is given a new name by every person who wields it. This is because the blade adds the memories of every wielder to its vast collection. The Kaari decided that since that was the case, each person should name it something new to showcase their importance to the blade.

Another oddity is that the ruler of House Kaari, the ones who wielded the blade, were chosen by a series of trials. These trials could sometimes lead to the death of those who took them.

The ancestral Valyrian blade, in short, is not just a weapon to help protect the House but a way to help the rulers lead.

Bloodsense is a very powerful tool of the Kaari. With it they are able to tell the heritage of a person through a scent, vision, or a combination of both. This sense can become much stronger depending if they spend a lot of time around a certain family or person. If they have been around a person long enough and with a deep enough connection, they can track the person using their bloodsense.

There are weaknesses that can be overcome through continued use of this ability. Though innate, the only true way to master it is by consciously using it. One weakness is twins. Twins can make it so you think you're sensing one when you're really sensing a new person. When Rin was captured in King's Landing she mistook what her bloodsense sensed as a longing for Tyrion Lannister when she was really sensing Tyrion's twin.

House Kaari is most known for its magical abilities. Because they are descended from dragons, the Kaari retain the immense magical abilities of the species. One of these abilities is a warg-like ability to control animals. Rin showcases this ability by her 'native tongue' which allows her to control animals. She talks with them and they obey. If she knows of a creature's biological system she can use her 'native tongue' to manipulate it to disastrous effects. This last bit of the ability she needs to know the complete biological system so it is something hard to master.

History

While House Targaryen likes to claim they are descended from dragons, they aren't. The deformities infamous to the House are caused by the magic in their blood. This isn't to say other dragonlord Houses weren't descended from dragons.

The Kaari are one of the dragonlords that were descended from dragons.

Kaari came from a dragon that they call the Last Dragon as that dragon was the last dragon before the Kaari came into being. The Last Dragon did not plan to make humans hatch from eggs, it just happened. The magic innate in all dragons allowed the Last Dragon to make this happen without meaning to.

Though the Kaari are referred to as humans, this is not the case. The truth is that they are a different species. Just because some look like humans doesn't mean they are the same species.

The Kaari did ride dragons as they believed that was one of the purposes of a dragon. They at no point thought they were better than the creatures they rode.

The only goal of the Kaari in the beginning, and the one that lasted even when they became a House, was to evolve to the next stage. They knew that evolution was a wild thing and that it could be more than hard to determine what was the correct path to take. So they stayed in the human stage until Rin was able to move her species forward.

The conflict between House Kaari and Targaryen started before the Kaari were a House. Because of the conflict the Kaari decided to become a House so that they would be better prepared to defend themselves from the Targaryens.

The conflict started one day when a group of Targaryens killed the Last Dragon, the icon of the Kaari. At this time the Last Dragon was so old that it rested a good majority of the time and allowed the Kaari to climb on it. It is safe to say it was nearing the last of its days.

Upon its death the Kaari felt a great wrath towards House Targaryen and would never again feel any kind of kinship towards that House.

After the Last Dragon died, a child of the Kaari managed to take the dragon's soul and an adult was able to keep it safe.

At a later date the soul of the Last Dragon was put into a Valyrian Sword which became the ancestral blade for House Kaari. The blade was made through human sacrifice. Specifically they sacrificed a Targaryen that was well liked among House Kaari for the blade.

The easiest way to make a Valyrian blade was through human sacrifice, a practice loathed among the Kaari. This was the only time that a human sacrifice was used to make a Valyrian steel blade in the history of the Kaari.

Through the years the reason for the conflict between House Kaari and Targaryen was forgotten by all. Even the Last Dragon forgot its origins. This due to the fact that everyone who held it put their memories into it.

The most famous of House Kaari's rulers is Lady Hisara. Her dragon was green and wasn't the biggest. In the spirit of her House's need to find the next stage of Kaari evolution, she went past the Wall to the land of Eternal Winter. It was there she discovered a new breed of dragons: Ice dragons.

They were much larger than their fire counterparts. So big that an ice dragon easily dwarfed a fire breathing dragon.

After spending time taking notes of the breed and investigating the landscape, she and the others with her came back to Valyria with Ice dragon eggs. In Valyria they were experimented on to make a Fire/Ice dragon hybrid. Lady Hisara and others believed that that would be the way to discover the next stage of their species' evolution.

After numerous fails, the experiments were finally ended with only two ones that were labeled as successes. They were not hatched until long after the Doom of Valyria.

The first of these two successes is Rin's dragon. It had found its way into the hands of Franc Raqus and was an object in the room where Rin was kept while a stone man. It hatched and Rin was cured. It hatched when the Raqus estate was attacked. Afterwards Rin was welcomed into the family, Franc became her father, and she raised her dragon. The dragon was never named as Rin didn't care that much for names.

Rin's dragon ended up taking the white coloring of an ice dragon and the growth of one.

The second success was Viserion. This is ironic as he ended up in the hands of the Kaari's longtime rivals. His color was influenced by his Ice dragon heritage. Having Ice dragon blood in his veins may have been a reason why he was able to resist the Night King's influence.

The Doom of Valyria was a devastating event. No one is sure what caused it or why it happened. All that is clearly known is the effects of the Doom. It left all the dragonlord Houses without dragons. All except House Targaryen. This seemed to spell the end of the Kaari.

The Kaari ended up loathing Daenys Targaryen, also known as Daenys the Dreamer, due to the fact that she was able to warn her House years before the Doom happened. She was the reason her House was able to survive the Doom with dragons.

After the Doom, House Kaari attempted to flee to Westeros. They found no more purpose in Essos as their world was crumbling apart. They felt it better to start anew than to live in a world that no longer seemed to be their own. The one thing stopping their move was House Targaryen.

The Kaari knew that if the Targaryens knew they were alive they would never find peace. Against three dragons, their end would be swift. Knowing this they decided to sacrifice some of their own so that the Targaryens would think the Kaari dead. They would think the Kaari no longer worth mentioning except in mocking tones.

This plan of theirs succeeded.

As House Kaari's purpose was evolution, they were more than prepared to fade into the background by mixing with other Houses. In the beginning this process was hard as their features were clearly Valyrian. But later their Valyrian features seemed to disappear and so they had an easier time hiding. They would sometimes marry with their spouses being unaware of the deception.

After House Targaryen thought they had finally won the great conflict, all knowledge of House Kaari was lost. The vast history of the dragonlord House was lost to Westeros and only the remaining Kaari in Westeros and the Rasiki in Essos remembered. Everyone else forgot even the words and sigil of the House.

The only thing House Targaryen allowed to remain were the prejudices held against the Kaari and myths of their vast magical abilities. The word Kaari was used as an expletive.

The only ones besides the Kaari and Rasiki to remember anything were the maesters. Though their dislike of magic and the irrelevance of the Kaari made it so not many of the order was interested in learning about the ancient dragonlord House.

After a long time of living in Westeros, the Kaari decided they needed to make a move. While they were alive, the purity of the bloodline was growing thin as were their numbers. So they decided to make their move or risk the continuation of their House. The move they decided to make was one of great dishonor but one they felt was necessary. They decided that to kill House Targaryen they had to destroy their dragons first.

House Kaari also decided that since the maesters would be the only ones to have the slightest chance of recognizing them, they had to be dealt with. So they sowed seeds of distrust within and beyond that order. So that if the maesters spoke of what had happened, they wouldn't be believed. Not even from those within their order. This would protect the Kaari from being found out before they overthrew House Targaryen and would allow their shame to stay hidden after they succeeded.

Even though the plan was successful, the Kaari were in too few numbers to even hope of overthrowing House Targaryen afterwards. They had risked their honor all for nothing. Because of what they had done, only a Kaari wouldn't have to risk anything to hatch a dragon egg. As for everyone else...there would have to be sacrifices to hatch the dragon eggs.

One Kaari returned to Essos to meet with the Rasiki, the order that is loyal only to House Kaari. There he put his memories into the ancestral sword before he died. This was the only time since the attempted genocide of House Kaari by House Targaryen, that new memories were put into the ancestral sword.

So a chunk of Kaari history has been lost to time.

Rin was the last Kaari to have the genetic makeup to continue the line. She did so with Jon Stark and accidentally created the next stage of the evolution of her species.
