Physiology

Drethiveal have two arms, two legs, and no tail. They have one thumb and four fingers on each hand. They have five toes on each foot.

They have hair on their head that ranges in color, length, and thickness. Some of them have unnatural hair color for their species due to the use of hair dyes or Avealing. Through Avealing they can also give their hair interesting textures. Older Drethiveal (both male and female) will sometimes color their hair in an attempt to hide grey and/or white hairs. Some Drethiveal males do experience baldness later in life. The earliest recorded instance of baldness in a Drethiveal occurred at twenty years old.

There are a few differences between males and females. Female mammary glands aid in rearing children. They also help arouse a potential mate. The two have different genitalia. The male's is suited for impregnating a female while the female's is suited for birthing children. These are two of the biggest differences.

While Drethiveal sexes are binary, their gender identities aren't. Some common gender identities are transexual and genderfluid.

Drethiveal develop the ability to change their form (a process called Avealing) early in life. By age thirteen they have chosen an animal or two to Aveal into. By the time Chronicles of Gaia starts, most can't fully assume the form of an animal (aka Aveal) and can only change into one animal. Near the beginning of their species, they were able to Aveal into up to three creatures with ease.

Culture

Drethiveal culture is mostly focused around how the Rethi (aka humans) are horrible and it is good to have a separate identity from them.

Fang is worshiped throughout Gaia, though the means of worship differ. Some Drethiveal view him as a deity/demi-god while others see him as merely one of the greatest Drethiveal. All ways to worship Fang are more than encouraged.

Drethiveal are extremely inclusive. Most don't care if you are bisexual, trans, ect. They believe all Rethi were extremely violent to those deemed different.

Drethiveal prefer nature to technology. They have found a middle ground of embracing both nature and technology. Only places like New Venice keep the fashions of the Rethi.

The Descendants are the group opposed to the usual order of the Drethiveal. They believe the Council of Ant have lied for millennia and want to bring the truth out. To most, this group is hated nearly as much as the Rethi.

Society 

Drethiveal live in villages. Each village is its own entity and the Council of Ant only interferes in the most extreme instances. The Council usually sends the Snow Leopards to help on their behalf. The Snow Leopards are also there to react to situations before the Council can.

Travel between villages is rare. This is due to the dangerous landscape of Gaia. Due to various dangers, travel tends to be slow. As technology isn't used freely, there dones't tend to be fast ways to travel.

Any conflicts tend to be one village against another. Larger conflicts are nearly unheard of.

Even though there are distances between villages, there is also a sense of peace between them. Some villages are able to avoid major conflicts while others have larger fights.

Every Drethiveal has a certain level of education they must achieve. For those seeking higher learning, there are universities for that purpose.
